It’s still rock and roll to me

In communications and marketing, media relations, public relations, social media on November 23, 2009 at 3:58 pm

Since 1993, I have been providing communications and marketing consulting services to clients in the public, private and non-profit sectors with regional, national and international operations.

It has been interesting to see the shift over this time from paper and videotape based press kits to the internet and social media explosion.

To me, it’s the perfect industry for an intellectually curious strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial spirit.  I feel incredibly lucky to be working in this sector now. The ever evolving social media landscape continues to keep we communicators on our toes — one week Google introduces Sidewiki which appears as a browser sidebar, where you can read and write entries along the side of any webpage and then another week You Tube announces a new tool that allows news organizations to connect with citizen journalists for content.

And yet no matter how seismic the changes, I still see communications spanning the centuries from medieval fabliaux (fables) to social media in the same way telling clear, concise and interesting stories to our desired audiences. This blog will give you tips and tactics on how to do it.

As Billy Joel sings “Everybody’s talking about the new sound but it’s still rock and roll to me.”
